The Clocktower building scoops top award
The £3.5m overhaul of The Clocktower building on the City Quay saw the category A-listed six-storey building converted into 12 luxury flats.

Union Property Group, the firm who carried out the work, have now scooped top prize in The Saltire Society Housing Design Awards.

Scottish Government culture minister Fiona Hyslop presented the plaque to the firm in recognition of a bold, honest and sympathetic reimagining of a famous monument to Dundee's mercantile past.

The clocktower, originally built with stone and cast iron in 1877, is a landmark building that has dominated the waterfront of the Port of Dundee for over 100 years. Shortlisted in the alterations, renovations and extensions category, the clocktower was the only Dundee property to be nominated in the competition.
The clocktower was recognised as a feat of ground-breaking renovation after winning the Dundee Civic Trust Award last year for outstanding contribution to the city.

Unicorn Property Group director Tim Allan said, "The clocktower's conversion has been a key part of the exciting reinvention with dynamic urban regeneration along the waterfront.

"Landmark buildings such as Customs House and Dundee One are now being seen as world-class developments. We hope that it is yet another sign that the Waterfront's redevelopment is being recognised in a city itself undergoing an exciting transformation."
